Petrified Wood is created by a multi-step process that involves the tree dying and then going through a perminalization process – which basically means minerals from water (ground water, lakes, oceans etc) fill the cracks of the decaying tree and crystalizes.
The crystallization continues until the area is completely filled. As we stated, there are many steps to petrifying wood.
Ultimately, the process ends with the wood being encased in stone. This amazing and natural process showcases the beauty of nature.
